Biotreatment - REMC staff have been involved in the development of the biological water treatment technology since 1989. Our company founder Jim Fricke was instrumental in developing biotreatment technology while employed at ASARCO where his work took him from laboratory-scale studies to full-scale on-the-ground application. Mr. Fricke was instrumental in the design and operation of a 1,000 gpm biotreatment system at an operating lead mine. REMC has the capability to provide biotreatment services from concept to full-scale design and operation. We have successfully applied this technology at mine sites in extreme settings including design and operation of pilot and full-scale biotreatment systems at 9,000 feet above sea level in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains. We have investigated application of the technology on highly acidic mine water and at flow rates up to 1,500 gpm. What separates us from the others is that we have long-term experience in the design, construction and operation of biotreatment systems. These systems meet applicable discharge criteria while substantially reducing costs and safety hazards compared to conventional chemical treatment systems. These systems can also be installed at remote off-the-grid sites where chemical treatment is not feasible.
