Due Diligence - REMC performed environmental due diligence services for the financial institution providing approximately 50% of the funding for a 48.6 million dollar purchase of the former Geneva Steel facility in London, Utah. Due diligence was conducted independently from the property purchaser to determine the level of risk for funding the property purchase. The property is the location of a former steel mill constructed in 1946 with a history of multiple owners and additional construction spanning a period of over 50 years. The environmental complexity of the site includes widespread contamination including multiple organic and inorganic contaminants impacting site surface and groundwater, surface and subsurface soils, as well as unknown ecological impacts to the surrounding area. Activities included the review of historical land use, site inspections, meeting with regulatory officials, review of RCRA permit documents and preparation of a due diligence report. The initial work was conducted on an expedited 10-day schedule to comply with the property purchase timeline. REMC conducts ongoing year-end due diligence work on an annual basis.
